The World Federation of Paediatric Imaging (WFPI) is an international organization that provides a platform for pediatric radiology organizations to unite to address challenges in pediatric imaging training and service delivery globally.
An important part of the mission is outreach and training in low-resource settings. In fulfillment of this mission, WFPI is offering a sponsored three-month training observatory (January 1-March 30, 2027) to be held at the SAMIC "Prof. Dr. Juan P. Garrahan" Pediatric Hospital in Buenos Aires, Argentina, under the mentorship of Dr. Monica Galeano.
• Financial support for the Observer is $3,000 US to cover transportation and living expenses; $1,000 US for the host institution.
The program aims to improve clinical practice and the teaching of pediatric radiology at all levels of healthcare throughout Latin America by developing expertise in imaging techniques and familiarity with appropriate protocols for evaluating childhood illnesses across the continent. The program is designed to complement and expand upon basic specialized training in diagnostic radiology. The outcome will be in-depth knowledge and extensive experience in pediatric imaging within the context of common pathologies in the region. The knowledge and skills acquired will enable a radiologist to perform optimal pediatric imaging studies in a general radiology department or a dedicated pediatric service.
During the 2-3 months of observation, the coordinator will be orienting, tutoring and guiding the observer in the various aspects of pediatric imaging, that is:
- • Performance of various pediatric fluoroscopic procedures.
- • Pediatric patient ultrasound: renal ultrasound, liver imaging, transplant imaging, Doppler, cranial ultrasound.
- • Focus on single-film reports: focus on chest x-ray, abdominal x-ray, bone, skeletal studies for non-accidental trauma imaging.
- • MRI protocols, pediatric brain imaging, myelination, oncological imaging
- • CT dosage, protocols, approach to the pediatric brain, abdomen, head and neck, oncological imaging.
- • The observer must be committed to the program throughout the entire period.
- • The observer may report on a case only under the supervision of the supervisor (the pediatric radiologist)
- • The observer must attend and contribute to academic meetings.
